What is ECP and how is it administered?
During ECP treatments, you lie on a comfortable bed. A series of blood pressure cuffs are wrapped around your calf, thigh, hips and buttocks. You are monitored by a computerized ECG, which triggers the cuffs to inflate and deflate in sync with the heartbeat. During the resting phase of your heart, the cuffs inflate to pump oxygen rich blood to the heart and the rest of your body. When your heart beats, the cuffs rapidly deflate. Then, the blood vessels expand and blood gets ejected from the heart with less effort for the heart muscle. You get all the benefits of a second heart pumping.
Patient’s usually listen to music, read, relax, or even fall asleep during treatment. The number of treatments depends upon the patient’s medical condition. (Angina and Congestive Heart Failure patients generally require 35 treatments).
What are some of the advantages of ECP?
ECP was initially developed to treat patients suffering from blockages due to heart disease. However, it is important to understand that heart disease is not just about blockages. Heart disease is a systemic condition that affects the entire vascular system‒60,000 miles of blood vessels. Thus, we need to address the entire system, not simply open up one or two vessels. ECP treats the entire vascular system as it bypasses blockages.
How does ECP bypass blockages?
ECP can create new blood vessels that go around or “bypass” existing blockages. It does this by releasing VEGF, which is a growth factor for blood vessels. ECP also stimulates the bone marrow to produce stem cell endothelial progenitor cells, which stimulate the growth of new blood vessel cells that line your arteries.
What are some of the other positive effects of ECP?
In addition to bypassing blockages, creating new blood vessels and strengthening the heart, ECP prompts the release of nitric oxide, which has an antioxidant and relaxing effect on your arteries. ECP reduces arterial stiffness, decreases inflammation in blood vessels, and prevents plaque build up. ECP produces a detoxification effect and improves lymphatic circulation. It helps to reduce stress. In addition, you receive the benefits of one hour of intense exercise while you lie down relaxing.
Does ECP detoxify the body?
Yes! ECP increases the removal of metabolic waste products from cells and improves circulation to the kidneys and liver. Increased blood flow not only delivers vital substances to the cells, it also “flushes out” metabolic waste and environmental toxins. ECP transports oxygen and nutrients into cells more effectively.
Does ECP increase shear force?
Shear force is the friction generated by blood flow. During ECP treatment, shear stress on the endothelial lining of the blood vessel is increased. This affords the patient several major benefits. First, shear force stimulates the release of nitric oxide, which has an antioxidant and relaxing effect on blood vessels. Second, shear stress has anti-inflammatory effects on blood vessels. Thirdly, shear stress wards off plaque build up and blockages because it prevents adhesion molecules and white blood cells from sticking to the blood vessel lining. ECP is in a class of its own in Regenerative Medicine due to its unique ability to effectively treat the entire cardiovascular system.
How does ECP affect blood vessels and arteries?
The endothelium is the innermost lining of the arteries. It is one of the largest organs in our body. The endothelium regulates the diameter of blood vessels. ECP stimulates the 3 endothelial cells to produce nitric oxide which naturally dilates blood vessels. Nitric oxide has profound effects on our cardiovascular, immune and central nervous systems.
Has there been much published research on ECP?
ECP has been proven effective in clinical trials at major universities and medical centres resulting in well over 100 scientific publications in mainstream journals–such as Journal of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine. ECP has been FDA-approved since 1995 for the treatment of coronary artery disease, angina, and cardiogenic shock. Medicare approved ECP for the treatment angina in 1999.
Does ECP benefit the average, healthy person?
ECP improves blood flow to every organ and cell in the body. It helps to deliver oxygen and nutrients, and aids in the removal of toxic debris. ECP is the ultimate preventive health maintenance tool, with unparalleled longevity and anti-aging potential. The treatment is non-invasive, and uses the body to heal itself. What could be more natural?
Is ECP considered a Regenerative Therapy?
Yes!! The benefits of ECP are far broader than the hemodynamic effects it produces during treatment. Studies have proven that ECP encourages the level of circulating hematopoietic progenitor cells and endothelial progenitor cells. (Progenitors cells are stem cells). Endothelial progenitor/stem cells serve to repair the lining of blood vessels. Hematopoietic progenitor cells are multi potent stem cells that produce all blood cell types–such as neutrophils, macrophages, erythrocytes, platelets and lymphoid cells (including T-cells, B-cells and natural killer cells). In other words, ECP prompts stem cells to regenerate the cardiovascular system, boost the immune system, and create new red blood cells and platelets!
Does ECP help promote longevity and wellness?
The most notable degenerative process is aging, which can be defined as a reduction in circulating stem cells. ECP has been proven to encourage the level of circulating stem cells. Therefore, it is likely to slow the effects of aging. Why wait until we are diagnosed with cardiovascular disease or another degenerative condition? ECP offers unparalleled therapeutic benefits, as well as amazing potential to prevent or slow the onset of many conditions, including aging. As we age, our microcirculation diminishes. This affects the flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients to our cells. Without adequate oxygen and nutrients, cells gradually become less effective and die. We have over 60,000 miles of blood vessels in our body, which pulsate in sync with our heartbeat about 100,000 times a day. ECP helps to keep them healthy.
Does ECP benefit athletes?
World class athletes use ECP therapy to improve their athletic and cardiovascular performance. ECP Australasia has successfully treated numerous professional and Olympic athletes with ECP, significantly improving their exercise tolerance and dramatically reducing recovery time from fatigue and injury.
